Last Day in Segovia

This morning while we had breakfast in our room we bought tickets online for our train travel tomorrow to Toledo. It will cost a little over 14 euros each ($21 CDN) from Segovia to Madrid Chamartin station and the same from Madrid Atocha station to Toledo. In between the 2 Madrid stations we can take a commuter train for about 2 euros each. We’ve researched the connections and timing so it shouldn’t be too onerous.
We didn’t really have a plan for today. Although it was still cool, the sun was shining this morning so we decided to walk around the old town and get some pictures in the sunlight. First we got a shot of Anita outside our hotel, the Don Felipe. After that we went to the Alcazar down the street. Then we walked back streets all the way to the Aqueduct at the other end of town. There are smaller churches scattered all over. Finally we bought some pastries called “fartons” for tomorrow morning and brought them back to our room.
The clouds and sometimes a light mist returned this afternoon. Nevertheless, we walked down to the Sorocco Bar for a drink and some blood sausage on bread with potato chips tapas in the small plaza there. Then we took the last of our beer and wine out to the little garden behind the hotel, sat under a canopy to avoid the intermittent rain and enjoyed the view of the canyon.
Finally, we walked a short distance down the street to the Mesón Don Jimeno restaurant for bowls of bean and chorizo (sausage) soup and fresh bread. At 8 euros per bowl ($12), it was more expensive than eating tapas but we thought we’d try some Castilian traditional soup. It turned out to be quite good.
We’re back in our room for the night, enjoying some tea and getting ready for travel tomorrow. Segovia is at about 1,000 m above sea level. Toledo is around 525 m. We’re hoping that will make for generally warmer weather. It’s been great sightseeing here but the weather could have been better. However, we always bring clothing for every type of weather so we’ve managed to stay comfortable. Everywhere you turn in Segovia there are beautiful buildings or plazas.
