Revenge of the Narcissists

Wednesday June 29th

Once again, we're going travelling in Europe. This time, from July 5th to August 16th we'll be spending 6 weeks wandering with our backpacks through Slovenia and Croatia. Dylan will drive us to the bus in Ottawa and then we fly from Montreal to Zurich with Swiss Air and then get a short flight from Zurich to Ljubljana, Slovenia, arriving about 11:10 on Wednesday July 6th.

We'll stay in Ljubljana for 2 nights and then take a 2 hour bus ride to Piran on Slovenia's short bit of Adriatic coast for 3 nights. After that we're off to Porec in Croatia for 4 nights to allow a day trip to one of the Istrian peninsula hill towns, probably Motovun. Then we're moving down the Istrian peninsula a bit to Rovinj for 2 nights. After that we have no further reservations but we're probably going to Opatija, Rijecka, Rab Island and work our way down the coast of Croatia through Zadar, Split, Trogir, Hvar Island, Korcula Island, Dubrovnik, perhaps a trip up to Mostar in Bosnia Hercegovina, then back up through Split to Plitvice National Park and a few days in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.

We'll bus back over to Ljubljana and probably rent a car to tour Lake Bled, the Julian Alps and the Karst region (big caves). Then it's back to Ljubljana to catch an early morning flight on August 16th back to Zurich and on to Montreal, bus to Ottawa and get the Dylan taxi service for the ride home.

We'll probably travel mostly by bus and passenger ferry down the Adriatic coast. We'll rent cars if and when it's practical to do so. We were never in a car for 9 weeks in Europe last summer but maybe this time we'll rent or even hire taxis on occasion. Anita is just recovering from a long, bad bout of pneumonia so we might not have our usual travelling stamina. We may have to slow our pace and see fewer places but that's okay - we'll do what we have to do to make the trip a success. Racing around ticking off tourist sites is not our style anyway.

The picture is us in Vienna last summer. Hopefully we'll still be on speaking terms at the end of this summer too.

If you know anyone else who would enjoy this blog, feel free to share the address with them. It's a sure cure for insomnia.

Next post will likely be from Ljubljana next week.
